Antique Satsuma Cup Saucer Set Meiji period c19thC Japan Gilt Hand Painted

Wonderful antique Satsuma cup and saucer set - Meiji period, depicting people in various settings. This is a stunning antique piece featuring finely hand painted details and fine gilding.

The set is thickly potted, and decorated with highly detailed hand painted images. The cup also has beautiful border on the interior. Measuring cup 2 5/8" H and 2 7/8" wide across the top rim. The saucer is approximately 5 3/8 wide. Both pieces have a mark, unfortunately it appears as the mark was almost removed at some point and now is unreadable.

I have five or these sets and on some pieces the marks shows the Shimazu family crest. My assumption all the pieces were marked with same marks. Condition - Some wear to gold and decorations but not extensive. Use related marks and scratches, and wear on the undersides.

Minor scabs on the foot. Some discoloration related to crazing and mostly visible on the undersides or the cup interior. Minor rough areas along the rims and on the cup handle.

Minor scabs on the tip of the handle (the dragon ears). It's is a wonderful and fine example of Japanese ceramics of the late 19th and early 20th era.
